NBA 2K12 designed by Adam Larson

Adam Larson worked with the team at 2K Sports to create the covers for the new NBA 2K12 video game.  Michael Jordan, Larry Bird and Magic Johnson are splitting duties as cover athletes, offering PS3 and Xbox 360 owners the option to choose from three unique covers.  The Bird and Johnson covers will be available in only limited quantities.

“Bringing Michael Jordan to the virtual hardwood last year was a huge success for NBA 2K11; however, we didn’t want to stop there,” said Jason Argent, vice president of marketing for 2K Sports. “We’re bringing ‘His Airness’ back to the NBA 2K franchise as part of a multi-year extended partnership, along with two other legendary icons – Larry Bird and Magic Johnson – for a special cover athlete collection representing the NBA’s greatest heroes.”

Adam Larson has produced art featured in magazines, galleries, and advertising campaigns. He’s racked up Kelly Awards, Cannes Lions, and Clio Awards for his work.

NBA 2K12 is available for pre-order at retailers throughout the nation. It will be released on October 4th for PS3, PS2, Xbox 360, Wii, and PC.

Adam Larson: Beyonce 4

Adam&Co. worked directly with Beyoncé and her creative team to design the packaging and associated promotional materials for her fourth solo studio album appropriately titled “4″.

Speaking about the album, which she refers to as “musical gumbo” owing to its inspiration found in the variety of music genres she loves, Beyoncé reveals: “My fans will be so excited about my new album because I put my heart and soul into creating something that’s personal and honest.”

Adam&Co. developed an editorial inspired platform to illustrate Beyoncé’s experiences, and the albums various sounds and inspirations. The result is a flexible magazine-like look and feel able to support songs ranging from world-beat pop singles to intimate power ballads. The look and feel was applied to packaging for both standard and deluxe editions, in-store point-of-purchase displays, online advertising and website, as well as traditional advertising and promotions.

Louisiana Fairytale: Posters by Adam Larson, Film by Danny Clinch

Photographer/filmmaker Danny Clinch worked with designer Adam Larson of Adam & Co. on this series of posters to promote Danny’s film ‘Live at Preservation Hall: Louisiana Fairytale”.  The film will be screened at SXSW on Thursday, March 17, at 2:30 p.m. at the Paramount Theater.

For fifty years the Preservation Hall Jazz Band has played to keep the traditions of New Orleans jazz alive, both at home and on tour around the world. Along the way, they have brought in collaborators of all musical stripes to play, honor, and reinterpret America’s first true art form.

Louisiana Fairytale documents their collaboration with American rock band My Morning Jacket, showing a legendary group of New Orleans musicians passing on traditions and inspiring a new generation. The film features an intimate performance by both bands in the French Quarter’s historic Preservation Hall.

Typography Tuesday: Adam Larson’s A for the AIGA

In 2010, the AIGA Boston honored type designer Matthew Carter’s work and career with a silent auction highlighted by posters of original letter designs by 13 local design luminaries, including Adam Larson.

Legendary type designer Matthew Carter was the sixth recipient of the AIGA Boston Fellow Award.  Matthew was part of a small group of ambitious and visionary people who left Linotype to found Bitstream in 1981 as the world’s first independent digital type foundry. Prior to Bitstream, customers bought type from their equipment vendor. Linotype fonts worked only on Linotype machines. Bitstream’s founders applied both actual and artificial intelligence in creating digital fonts that could work on any platform.
