Independent film magazine Little White Lies turned to illustrator Steve Wilson to create an image depicting Illich Ramirez Sanchez, AKA ‘Carlos the Jackal’, for the cover of their October issue.
Carlos the Jackal (born Ilich Ramírez Sánchez on October 12, 1949(1949-10-12)) is a Venezuelan convicted in France. After several bungled bombings, he achieved notoriety for a 1975 raid on the OPEC headquarters in Vienna, resulting in the deaths of three people. For many years he was among the most wanted international fugitives. He is now serving a life sentence in La Sante Prison in Paris for the murder of two French agents of the DST (counter-intelligence) and an alleged informant.
Ramírez Sánchez was given the nom de guerre Carlos, when he became a member of the leftist Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP). Carlos was called The Jackal by The Guardian when Frederick Forsythe’s novel The Day of the Jackal was reportedly found among his belongings.
The biopic film, Carlos, released October 22, 2010, is directed by Olivier Assayas and starring Édgar Ramírez, Nora von Waldstätten, Christoph Bach.

Steven Wilson recently collaborated with Jon Obi Mikel, of the London football club Chelsea, on a new promotional project for Foot Locker. The idea was that a chosen artist was asked to create a piece inspired by an athlete with which they were paired. The collaboration was then documented as short film to play in Foot Locker stores throughout London.
Steven told us, “Jon and I had a conversation on the phone and he told me a bit more about himself. I incorporated much of what we spoke about into my portrait. We then met up and spent the day in a studio where I unveiled the poster to him.”

We are proud to announce the addition of Steven Wilson to the Levine/Leavitt roster. Welcome Steve!
Steven is an Illustrator who lives and works in Brighton, UK. Originally from North London Steven fell in love with Brighton’s liberal attitudes and tendency to attract the weird and wonderful whilst studying on the renowned Illustration course there. He can often be found foraging through the local flea markets for obscure books and discarded paraphernalia to use as inspiration. Circus posters, fairgrounds, victorian postcards and tribal body art are amongst the themes he cites as reference for his varied and experimental work which he generalizes as ‘somewhere between pop and psychedelia’.
His working processes are as eclectic as his influences. Pen, pencil, paint, collage and even play-doh are combined with contemporary tools like photoshop and Illustrator to create his work.
