Landscape Monday: Northern Germany shot by Markus Wendler

Personal work by Markus Wendler, these two gorgeous landscapes were taken in the most northern part of Germany, Schleswig Holstein.

Situated between the Baltic and North Seas, the winter weather in northern Germany brings days that Markus describes as ‘Bad, bad bad, completely overcast, foggy, dark and cold’.  These images were taken at around 2:00 in the afternoon.  Apparently, on days like this, the light is the same early in the morning, middle of the day, and into the afternoon.  Quite gloomy, but perfect for a beautiful photo.  See more of Markus’s new landscapes on our site www.llreps.com .

These gorgeous images were taken by Markus Wendler at the Ilulissat Icefjord in Greenland.  This fjord was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2004 and is one of Greenland’s most popular tourist destinations.

For their first shoot with Volkswagon since winning the VW business, the creative team at Deutsch turned to photographer Markus Wendler to capture the new 2011 vehicles.

Working with producer Gavin Harrison, the crew traveled all over Southern and Northern California shooting in environments as varied as downtown LA to the Mohave Desert and Big Sur.

Markus Wendler for Skoda

Markus Wendler’s most recent shoot for the Skoda Yeti ad campaign.

We spoke with Markus about shooting this campaign, specifically about his work with landscapes.  He told us:

“I love form.  But I also love concept.  In shooting landscapes, the form is the concept.  I love to think about solutions…about how I can create a picture without having the control to alter the elements involved.  When I do still work, it is, for example, easy to move a piece of glass to the left.  In landscapes you must find the angle which works in your defined formalistic strategy.”

Markus Wendler in Greenland

This past April, Markus ventured to Greenland to photograph the breathtaking and rugged landscape for a Siemens campaign. Below is a short video clip of Markus shooting in the wind and snow:
