New from Nick Meek: Somewhere over Nevada

Taken from photographer Nick Meek’s blog Make Good Time, these images were shot somewhere over Nevada…

“I was flying back from Los Angeles three weeks ago when I spotted these amazing landscapes. Unfortunately I couldn’t get to my camera in time but as luck would have it another job came in that had me shooting back in L.A the following week. To my surprise the light and cloud cover was exactly as I remembered it. I think we were somewhere over Nevada.”

Nicaragua’s New Day shot by TrujilloPaumier

For the September issue of Conde Nast Traveler, Joaquin Trujillo and Brian Paumier traveled to Nicaragua to capture the pleasures and paradoxes of the economically troubled, albeit beautiful, country.

We grabbed a few words from Joaquin about his love for Nicaragua:

“Nicaragua… this was the second time I had been there and I love LOVE it.   Last time, we went to Corn Island on the Caribbean Sea.  This time we got to travel to Ometepe Island, which is made up of 2 volcanoes, and where we hiked and swam in a lake known for having fresh water sharks.  Fantastic views there.  Being in Granada at the Isletas, you could see Conception and one of the volcanoes at Ometepe.  Being at Conception, you could see Mombacho, the volcano close to Granada.  It was amazing.  Nothing could stop us from enjoying this great friendly country, all the way from Granada to San Juan del Sur.”

Landscape Monday: Japan by Nick Meek

Three new landscapes by photographer Nick Meek, taken on a recent trip to Japan in an area south west of Sapporo called Noboribetsu, Hokkaidō.  Named after the volcanic caldera lakes of Lake Shikotsu and Lake Tōya, these images are of the walls surrounding one of the lakes.  We love the textures and details created by the buildup of sulfur and other minerals, the result of which makes one question the distance at which these images were taken.

Landscape Monday: Mexico shot by TrujilloPaumier

This stunning image of Lago de Patzcuaro in Mexico was shot by Joaquin Trujillo and Brian Paumier.

A few words from Joaquin about the shoot:

“Lake Pátzcuaro.  I have known about this lake for years.  When Brian and I were there, it was a great experience, they were celebrating Dia de Los Muertos (Day of the Dead) and one of this Islands was lit up with candles for 2 days.  Lots of amazing movies were filmed here during La Epoca de Oro, the golden age of Mexican cinema, so for me it has lots of sentimental value.   It was very special to have woken up one morning and had the opportunity to create this photo with Brian.”

Landscape Monday: Wind Slab by photographer Nick Meek

Taken from Nick Meek’s blog: There’s a cable car that runs from the Aiguille Du Midi at the foot of Mont Blanc, France to the Rifugio Torino in Italy. It passes over the Glacier Du Giant, a massive area of snow, ice and crevasses. Whilst hovering a couple of hundred meters above in this tiny cable car I noticed that it’s really hard to get a sense of scale. The constant beating of the the wind etches patterns in the snow as it cuts through soft and hard layers. But are these shapes meters tall or just a few centimeters.

The series was nominated for the AOP awards and appears in the awards book.

Landscape Monday: Northern Germany shot by Markus Wendler

Personal work by Markus Wendler, these two gorgeous landscapes were taken in the most northern part of Germany, Schleswig Holstein.

Situated between the Baltic and North Seas, the winter weather in northern Germany brings days that Markus describes as ‘Bad, bad bad, completely overcast, foggy, dark and cold’.  These images were taken at around 2:00 in the afternoon.  Apparently, on days like this, the light is the same early in the morning, middle of the day, and into the afternoon.  Quite gloomy, but perfect for a beautiful photo.  See more of Markus’s new landscapes on our site www.llreps.com .

T Magazine shot by Trujillo/Paumier

New York Times T Magazine commissioned Trujillo/Paumier to shoot the remote fishing villages of Newfoundland, Canada and the wild Atlantic salmon that are abundant in its surrounding waters.

We caught up with Brian Paumier for a few words about his experience spending time with the fishermen that reside in such a remote part of the world:

“The people of Newfoundland are some of the most interesting I’ve ever met in my travels.  Really honest, trustworthy.  I was most inspired by their survival and endurance – they eat everything from seal and moose, to caribou and raw scallops.  Anything it takes to survive living in the wilderness.  These people have great respect for nature.”
