Typography Tuesday: David Calderley for Interscope Records

Our obsession with type continues with this logo, created by David Calderley for rapper/singer/producer/DJ Blaqstarr, commissioned by Interscope Records.

A few words from David about creating this logo:

‘Blaqstarr’s music is an interesting mix of electronic and darkhop, borrowing many different black music styles and fusing into this sped up dark place.  He has worked with MIA and Diplo, so it had to be a little left field.  I did many different logos using elements that I felt existed in his sound (80’s video games, Blaxsploitation, electronica).  He settled on this one which is made from an existing font.’

Art Director and Designer David Calderley has been in the fashion, music and ad business for over 15 years. The former Creative Director of V2 Records, David has designed album packaging and publicity materials for an immense number of artists including Interpol, Beck, Chris Cornell, Josh Ritter, Moby, and The Raconteurs, for which he won awards including the coveted Alex Award for Best Vinyl Packaging.
